Today is October 365. Here’s what Israelis are doing.

The calendar may say October 7, 2024, but in Israel, the date is October 365, 2023.

I don’t know what else to say, and for me, that is unusual.

This morning I went to the bomb shelter as there were sirens over Tel Aviv – despite all its losses, Hamas managed to hold on to a few rockets for just this occasion.  Some light injuries were reported.  The North, of course, is under constant bombardment.

In the United States and around the world, many world leaders and ordinary people are expressing touching support, while some others are protesting against Israel and holding celebrations of the October 7 massacre – an expression of the very same blind hatred that caused the massacre in the first place.

Despite everything, there is a special feeling of togetherness here in Israel. There will be a memorial ceremony this evening, but due to the security situation, most Israelis will not attend in person, as our government has asked us to join by television instead – every major station will carry the event live.  Like most Israelis, I will be joining friends to watch, and to simply be together.

If you would like to do the same, you can tune in to any Israeli television channel at 7pm Israel time (12:00 noon EST).  For example, here is a link to the live feed from Israel’s public broadcaster, Kan 11.  Here is the live feed from Israel’s Channel 12, and here is Channel 13.

Ynet (the online version of the Yedioth Achronot newspaper) will have a special broadcast that will apparently include English translations.

Thank you for standing by Israel and RealityCheck during this critical time.
