At the State of the Union Speech this past Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump emphasized a critical danger that some Americans are willfully ignoring:
“[Iran has] already developed missiles that can threaten Europe and our bases overseas, and they’re working to build missiles that will soon reach the United States of America.”

Self proclaimed “fact checkers” ostensibly “debunked” this statement, saying:
President Trump’s claim that Iran will soon have a missile that can hit the United States is not backed by U.S. intelligence reports and appears to be exaggerated. (Reuters, Feb 27, 2026)
Other “fact checkers” echoed almost identical phrasing.
The reality:
-
Last month the Iranian regime itself claimed to have tested an ICBM (Intercontinental Ballistic Missile) capable of reaching the mainland United States.
-
This echoes similar Iranian claims of another ICBM test last September.
-
Bloomberg has confirmed via analysis of satellite imagery that Iranian facilities are indeed working in this direction.
-
America’s Defense Intelligence Agency assesses that Iran is on track to have an ICBM capable of reaching the United States by 2035. Journalists might not consider nine years to be “soon,” but security professionals do.

Could Iran be lying or exaggerating about its timeline? Perhaps.
Can Iran’s own statements be completely and safely dismissed? Absolutely not.
In any case, there is a plethora of evidence, including intelligence reports, to support the conclusion that Iran is working on missiles that will be able to target the United States in the near future.
The debunkers are officially debunked.
This is not a mere matter of “political football.” Missiles that can reach the United States, whether tomorrow or in nine years, are a catastrophic threat that must be addressed well in advance. And the missiles don’t care which party you support.
Has America really become so polarized that we’re willing to commit actual, physical, national suicide just to score a political point?
Let’s hope not. Iran would love that.
